SeaCAS SafePassage AIS is endorsed by Capt. John W. Trimmer, author and vessel pilot with more than 32 years of experience.

Capt. Trimmer says, “Clearly the burden to avoid a collision with a large ship is on the pleasure boat. The SeaCAS SafePassage provides boaters with all the collision avoidance information they need in a timely manner to determine if they are on a collision course and, if so, to decide what evasive action to take and when to take it.”

Capt. Trimmer's book, How to Avoid Huge Ships can be purchased through the Ordering Options on this website. The book details the difficulties with driving a large ship and how pleasure boaters behavior in a crossing situation is the reason why many pilots have grey hair. Capt. Trimmer's anecdotes about close calls and fatal accidents alone are worth the price of the book.

Overview of SafePassage AIS products

SeaCAS’ suite of SafePassageAIS Receivers—the 100, 150 and 300—are designed to assist you with safely navigating through congested shipping lanes and adverse weather conditions avoiding collisions. Each model uses a dual-band AIS receiver to provide you with real-time information about all nearby commercial ships. You’ll know a ship’s:

  • Course, speed, size and type.

Name and call sign to hail other ships on VHF in case of an impending collision.

Their Closest Point of Approach (CPA) and the Time of Closest Point of Approach (TCPA).

  • Their Closest Point of Approach (CPA) and the Time of Closest Point of Approach (TCPA).

  • Name and call sign to hail the ship on VHF to make passing arrangenments.

If you are on a collision course, the SeaCAS SafePassage gives you the information and response time you need to make good decisions.
